The Cooper City Commission adopted Ordinance 26-16 on September 8, 2026, approving updates to the City Code governing the parking and storage of recreational vehicles, boats and commercial vehicles on residential property.
The ordinance eliminates the City’s annual registration, inspection and related fee requirements for RVs and boats. It also establishes updated guidelines for temporarily parking an RV or boat in front of a residential property.
Understanding the 36-Hour Parking Allowance
Under the amended Code, an RV or boat may be temporarily parked in front of a residence for up to 36 hours within a seven-day period. This allowance is intended for actual, active and uninterrupted:
Loading or unloading
Repairs
Deliveries
Maintenance
While using the 36-hour allowance, the RV or boat may only be parked on the residential property’s driveway area. The allowance does not permit parking on the front lawn or another unapproved portion of the property.
The City has established an online form that allows residents to document the start of the temporary parking period and help both residents and the City track use of the allowance.

The 36-hour allowance cannot be restarted immediately after one period expires to permit continuous parking in front of a residence.
Additional Changes Approved
Ordinance 26-16 also:
Clarifies that qualifying tenants, as well as property owners, may keep an RV or boat on residential property when applicable placement and screening requirements are met.
Updates provisions involving the use, maintenance, parking and height of RVs and boats on residential property.
The elimination of the City registration process does not remove other applicable standards involving placement, screening, height, condition, maintenance or the number of vehicles or boats permitted on a residential property.
